Bio-Engineered Concrete: A Critical Review on The Next Generation of Durable Concrete

نویسندگان

چکیده

Concrete is a prerequisite material for infrastructural development, which required to be sufficiently strong and durable. It consists of fine, coarse, aggregate particles bonded with fluid cement that hardens over time. However, micro cracks development in concrete significant threat its durability. To overcome this issue, several treatments maintenance methods are adopted after construction, ensure the durability structure. These include use bio-engineered concrete, involved biochemical reaction non-reacted limestone calcium-based nutrient help bacteria. bio-cultures (bacteria) act as spores, have ability survive up 200 years, they also found start mineralization process filling or pores when contact moisture. Previous research proved self-healing technology, developed mechanical strength properties composite materials. The mechanism healing natural eco-friendly. Therefore, study aims critically analyze future potentials Structural Engineering field, through literature review. data analysis was conducted order provide gradual informative ideas on historical background, present situation, main According review, has promising outcome case increment crack healing. only disadvantage less application practical fields. results concluded new method ensuring sustainable development. And also, it indicated more outcome-based extensive various aspects should conducted, assess overall

cement is an essential ingredient in the concrete buildings. for production of cement considerable amount of fossil fuel and electrical energy is consumed. on the other hand for generating one tone of portland cement, nearly one ton of carbon dioxide is released. it shows that 7 percent of the total released carbon dioxide in the world relates to the cement industry. considering ecological issu...

Development and Implementation of the Next Generation Concrete Surface

The Next Generation Concrete Surface (NGCS) is the first new concrete texture introduced in the past 20 to 30 years. It was conceived as a manufactured texture whose properties are consistent and predictable and represents the quietest nonporous concrete texture developed to date. At the time of construction the NGCS is typically 99 dBA in noise level and has a typical range up to 101 dBA over ...

Modeling of Self-Healing Concrete: A Review

Self-healing concrete (SHC) has received a tremendous attention due to its advanced ability of automatic crack detection and crack repairing compared to the standard concrete. Two main approaches which considered as to-date self-healing mechanisms are autogenous and autonomous healing. In the past several years, the effort of the research has been focused on experimental works instead of numeri...

The New Generation of Concrete with the Approach of Ductility: Review

The present study examines the new generation of concrete. Concrete has long been a major problem, is its ductility. Traditionally, remembering the words of concrete, compressive strength also comes to mind. Compressive strength is not only parameter of necessary and sufficient for a material. Concrete is basically brittle material. By adding the steel in this material is an attempt to ductile ...

Effect of the Concrete Strength on the Concrete-Steel Bond in Concrete Filled Steel Tubes

In this study, the concrete-steel bond strength of concrete filled cylindrical steel tubes has been experimentally investigated. 22 short, high strength and normal concrete filled circular steel tubes were tested. Push-out test was carried out as the common method to evaluate the bond carrying capacity. Four different concrete mixes were used in preparing the specimens. The steel tubes were w...
